iPhone 5 nitpicks: Album art not centered on Lock screen

iPhone 5 nitpicks: Album art not centered on Lock screen

Album art has never been perfectly centered on the iPhone or iPod touch Lock screens. It's been placed immediately on top of the slide-to-unlock bar. Because of the 3:2 aspect ratio of previous iPhone and iPod touch devices, however, and because the top of the album art and the reflection beneath it peak through the translucent time and slide-to-unlock bars, the visual weighting was close enough to appear centered and thus, balanced. Not so with the iPhone 5 and its 16:9 aspect ratio. Now the bottom alignment of album art lookes decidedly bottom heavy. Worse, there's a big black gap between the top of the album art and the bottom of the time bar.

The advantage of bottom aligning album artwork on the 16:9 display is that none of it is obscured by the name of the song, and even when you double-click the Home button to bring up the music controls, very little is obscured. The disadvantage is, in design parlance, "Oh god, my eyes, my eyes..."

So how to fix it? Placing the album art dead center wouldn't work either. There'd still be an empty black space between the top of the art and the bottom of the time bar. Butting the album art up immediately beneath the time bar, however, and filling the resulting empty space on the bottom with the traditional translucent reflection. The weighting would then be close enough to once again appear visually centered. When the Home button double-click brings up the controls, more of the top of the album art would be obscured again, but with a small tweak it wouldn't be terrible, and still better than it currently is on 3:2 devices.

Here are samples of how album art currently looks on the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 (left and center), along with a mockup of how it would look if fixed as described above. Beneath that is what the hero pic above would look like with the fixed album art.

I hope Apple considers fixing this in iOS 6.something (and yes, I'll file a radar!)

Because, damn.

The Rich Match Making: What Should Be On Your Love Checklist?

Philosophers, clinicians, researchers, and theologians have all had their say about what love is and what love isn't. People are quick to throw all sorts of terms and theories around when they are feeling "warm and fuzzy", or when they need a rationale for why they do not do what they are supposed to do in their intimate relationships.

As a marriage, family, and sexuality therapist and educator, I have noticed that many of my clients either do not have a relationship/love checklist or, if they do have one, they allow their boundaries to become blurred when they begin to have amorous feelings.

So, what should be on your relationship (or love) checklist? Here are a few things you should consider before entering into your next romantic encounter or relationship:

Be Happy With Yourself and Be Ready to Be in a Relationship
There are three essential components to being happy with yourself and ready to be in a relationship:
A. Identify what you need to be happy with yourself.
B. Identify what you may need to do to enable your partner to be happy.
C. Identify what your expectations of being in a relationship actually are.

Being "ready" to be in a relationship means that you are physically, emotionally, and spiritually open to intimately sharing who you are with someone else. Likewise, you also need to be receptive to who your partner is and where he or she is at across all of those dimensions. Many people want to be in love or in a relationship but either aren't ready themselves or don't have a partner who is ready.

Never Forget How Special You Are
If your partner minimizes, negates, or judges you or your actions, you may want to proceed with extreme caution - or not at all. Sometimes when we fall in love with a person it is at the expense of neglecting or even forgetting who we are. Instead, it is important to be with someone who doesn't prevent us from remembering and exhibiting those traits that allow us to be the special individuals that we were put on this Earth to be.

Take Your Time
Too often when couples begin relationships they don't take enough time getting to know one another across different contexts. For example, most people behave differently in front of their peers, their families, and their co-workers and it is important for a couple to have an understanding of how they interact with the different people in their different circles. Moreover, people behave differently over time. The way that a person treats his or her parents today may be significantly different from the way that they may have interacted with their parents when they were growing up. One of your relationship tasks should be to allow the relationship to move slowly enough so that you are able to learn who you are really giving your heart to.

Seven Important Traits
Here are seven additional traits that you may want to add to your love/relationship checklist. Remember, it is important that you define what all of these mean to you personally.

1. Companionship:
How much time do you want to spend with your love interest? What will you do when the two of you are together? What will you do when you are apart?
2. Honesty:
Will honesty in the relationship be the result of open disclosure, or soliciting for responses?
3. Trust:
How dependable or predictable are you? How predictable or dependable should your partner be?
4. Openness:
How open and flexible are you? How open and flexible do you want your partner to be?
5. Reciprocity:
Do you expect your partner to give to you in the same way as you give to him or her?
6. Good communication:
Does your partner share what is really going on with them? Do you share? Do either of you listen?
7. Consideration:
How considerate of and attentive to your partner's feelings are you? Should he or she be as considerate of and attentive to your feelings?
Feel free to include some of your own relationship/love checklist items as well. Good Luck!

How To Pick Up Women

Depending on the situation, many guys find it hard to talk to girls, particularly those girls who are super attractive. Getting the woman's attention and starting a chat with a woman the first time without any formal introduction can be a scary situation.

The first basic rule of picking up on a woman is to make the woman comfortable. A man should not come out as a weird guy who does not know when to walk away. In most cases, the man should establish eye contact with the target woman. This involves the man giving his target time to mull over her attraction to him. A woman will feel comfortable when the man's eyes are not locked on her for too long.

Another important tip for picking up on a woman is eye contact. It involves the man holding his gaze momentarily. Three things can happen in this case. The woman can replicate the man's gaze by holding hers. The woman can smile. The woman might choose to look away.

The first 2 scenarios can show that there are sparks flying between man and woman. The third one can be a deadly blow to the chances of the man hooking up with the woman.

When the woman to be picked is in the company of other people, the man should do his analysis very well. The man can make a costly blunder if he tries to hit on some of the woman's female friends. This might portray the man as a good for nothing player. It can also mean that the man does not value his target, and that his feelings are not real. The key is selecting the one that he has an interest in.

After the initial contact with the woman, the man should make the woman feel special. The woman can only be interested in a man if he shows that he is bold and intriguing. When a man uses compliments, it can be helpful in this regard. When the woman understands how much the man values her, she will obviously want to spend more time with the man.

When contemplating on picking up a woman, follow the dating rules. Rejection is part of the game, and this should not weigh heavily on the man's mind. A man can choose to persist with the hunt or move on. Perfect places to do the picking up include coffee shops, parks and grocery stores. These places can have an element of surprise to the woman.

Meeting women is a scary experience especially for first timers. But all guys need to learn how to do it. For more information, please continue reading at: http://bestplacestomeetwomen.net

(AP) ? The pope's once-trusted butler went on trial Saturday for allegedly stealing papal documents and passing them off to a journalist in the worst security breach of the Vatican's recent history ? a case that embarrassed the Vatican and may shed some light on the discreet, internal workings of the papal household.

In its first hearing in the case, the three-judge tribunal threw out some evidence gathered during the investigation of butler Paolo Gabriele, who is charged with aggravated theft. It also decided to separate Gabriele's trial from that of his co-defendant, a computer expert charged with aiding and abetting the crime.

Gabriele is accused of taking the pope's correspondences, photocopying the documents and handing them off to Italian journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi, whose book "His Holiness: The secret papers of Pope Benedict XVI," was published to great fanfare in May.

Nuzzi has said his source, code-named "Maria" in the book, wanted to shed light on the secrets of the church that were damaging it. Taken as a whole, the documents seem aimed primarily at discrediting Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state and Benedict's longtime trusted deputy. Bertone, 77, a canon lawyer and soccer enthusiast, has frequently been criticized for perceived shortcomings in running the Vatican.

On Saturday, the court also announced that the pope's personal secretary, Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, had been called as a witness, testimony that is sure to attract attention given that Gaenswein rarely speaks in public much less about details of the intimate, papal family of which Gabriele formed part.

Other witnesses include one of the four consecrated women who take care of the pope's apartment, a monsignor in the Vatican secretary of state, the No. 2 Swiss Guard commander and the head of the Vatican police force.

Judge Giuseppe Dalla Torre set the next hearing for Tuesday, when Gabriele will be questioned. He said he thought the whole trial could be wrapped up in four more hearings.

Gabriele faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. He has already confessed, saying he leaked the documents to shed light on what he called the "evil and corruption" in the church, and asked to be pardoned by the pope.

Gabriele, a 46-year-old father of three, appeared calm but tense during the 2 hour, 15 minute hearing, frequently crossing his hands or clasping them in his lap. He wore a light gray suit and tie.

He sat alone on a bench on one side of the intimate, austere courtroom following the proceedings impassively. During a break in the hearing, he chatted with his attorney, Cristiana Arru, and greeted journalists with a nod and a smile as he entered and exited.

Arru raised a series of objections at the start of the hearing, only some of which were accepted by the court. One concerned two jailhouse conversations Gabriele had with the head of the Vatican police force without his lawyers present. The judges declared the conversations were inadmissible. The content of the conversations isn't public.

Arru also sought access to the report of a commission of cardinals appointed by the pope to investigate the leaks alongside Vatican magistrates. The court denied the request.

Neither Gabriele's wife nor any of his three children attended the hearing. Space for the public was limited; eight of the 18 seats were taken up by the journalists who followed the proceedings and then briefed the rest of the Vatican press corps afterwards.

Security was relaxed, with the guards at the tribunal entrance mostly concerned that none of the press or public brought in any recording devices: They even checked pens to make sure they couldn't record, and sequestered cell phones into safe boxes. No television or still cameras were allowed, except for Vatican media which filmed the first moments at the start of the hearing.

Eight members of the Vatican gendarmerie who were called as witnesses were in the courtroom as well, but left during the break after the judges made clear they wouldn't be called to testify Saturday. Domenico Giani, the pope's personal bodyguard and the head of the Vatican police force, remained for the duration of the hearing.

Given the content of the leaks and the Vatican's penchant for secrecy, the fact that the trial was open to the public and media may have struck some as unusual. In fact, such trials in the Vatican's civil and penal tribunal are routinely public. They just don't happen very often or attract much attention. The Vatican's ecclesial courts on the other hand, which handle marriage annulments, clerical sex abuse cases and other matters of church law, remain firmly off-limits to outsiders.

In some ways, the willingness of the Vatican to proceed with the trial at all is an indication of its efforts to show new transparency in its inner workings. Benedict could have pardoned Gabriele as soon as he was arrested or charged, precluding any trial from getting off the ground. Instead he allowed the trial to go ahead, evidence of the "courage" the Vatican is showing to be more transparent, Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi has said.

He called such transparency unprecedented for the Vatican and likened it to the Holy See's recent decision to submit its financial institutions to outside scrutiny by the Council of Europe's Moneyval committee.

Fox News airs live footage of man commiting suicide

A carjacking in Arizona ended when the suspect shot himself in the head today as footage of the incident was broadcast live on Fox News Channel.

A chopper covered the high-speed chase along I-10 outside Phoenix. Initial reports indicated that a victim may have remained in the stolen car.

Chopper video showed the vehicle zooming along Arizona's wide open highway, flashing past cars and trucks, switching lanes as it weaved through traffic, often speeding along the shoulder of the road. The camera from the chopper captured the moment the chase ended with a male stumbling out of a red SUV into a grassy area. He reached into his waistband and pulled a handgun. He then shot himself in the head.

Fox cut away from the shot soon after the man shot himself and went to commercial break.

Following the break anchor Shepard Smith apologized for airing the shooting. He said the feed was on a five second delay, but they failed to cut it off in time.

"We really messed up and we're all very sorry," he said. "That didn't belong on TV... I personally apologize to you that it happened."

"It's insensitive and it's wrong," he said of airing the shooting.

US seeks calm over Asian disputes; won't mediate

(AP) ? The Obama administration on Friday pressed U.S. allies Japan and South Korea to continue their cooperation on North Korea and other key issues, despite a dispute over a contested islet, and also urged Tokyo and Beijing to make serious diplomatic efforts on an even sharper dispute over maritime borders.

Meeting with the Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said "every nation in the region has a responsibility to work to resolve disputes, peacefully lower tensions, promote regional security and stability." She noted the three key countries' cooperation is vital to convincing North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, doing her best to calm their disagreement over the tiny islands known as Dokdo in South Korea, and Takeshima in Japan.

The two countries, which both host tens of thousands of American troops, also have been at odds over the historical legacy of Japan's 35-year occupation of South Korea in the early 20th century and its use of Korean women as sex slaves by soldiers. In June, the two countries put on hold an intelligence sharing pact after it provoked an outcry in South Korea.

"Our alliances with Japan and South Korea are the cornerstones of peace and prosperity in the region," Clinton said at the start of the talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba and Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan. "Each of these countries represents an enormous success story about what can happen when nations are focused on peace and stability and giving more opportunities to their own people, and developing good relationships with their neighbors. We will maintain close cooperation between the three of us. That is a top priority for the United States."

The dispute between Japan and South Korea is just one of several in Asia, where competing maritime issues are inflaming public sentiment and even provoking violent protests in China. Beijing's battles range from the resource-rich South China Sea to rock outcroppings administered by Japan.

China and Japan traded angry accusations over the islands in a late-night exchange at the U.N. General Assembly Thursday. The islands are called Senkaku by Japan and Diaoyu by China.

That prompted the top U.S. diplomat for East Asia, Kurt Campbell, on Friday to remind the two countries, which have the world's second and third largest economies, to recognize the importance of their relationship and resolve their grievances through dialogue. He said each government should set aside the territorial dispute from its other bilateral issues, acknowledging that it would be "extraordinarily difficult" to solve.

The U.S., however, will not play a mediating role in the dispute, Campbell told a news conference.

In her meeting, Clinton told the Japanese and the Koreans the same thing about mediation, a senior U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because she wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the private meeting.

Obama-Romney debate challenge: handling the off-script moment

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - If history is a guide, Democrat Barack Obama will have a tough time in the first presidential debate on Wednesday, Republican Mitt Romney will be particularly aggressive, and both will risk committing a damaging gaffe if they wander off their talking points.

The 90-minute showdown in Denver - the first of three televised Obama-Romney encounters in October that will set the tone for the final month of the presidential campaign - will feature two experienced and competent debaters who are at their best in scripted settings.

Neither the Democratic president nor his Republican rival has ever seemed to enjoy the more freewheeling aspects of a candidates' debate, and both have said things during debates that became headaches for their campaigns.

Obama, known for soaring rhetoric and inspirational generalities in his speeches, suffered in some 2008 Democratic primary debates from a diffident and nuanced style that could make him seem flat and uncertain. His most pointed responses often seemed condescending or flippant.

Romney, who survived a grueling series of debates in this year's Republican race, often displayed an efficient and feisty style in rolling over his challengers.

But Romney also can seem stiff and awkward when challenged.

When frustrated, he can also make mistakes - like his offer to bet Texas Governor Rick Perry $10,000 over a disputed point during one Republican primary debate, a scene that was a reminder of critics' charges that Romney is an out-of-touch rich guy.

"They are pretty evenly matched as debaters," said Alan Schroeder of Northeastern University in Boston, who has written a history of presidential debates. "They both tend to be more intellectual than emotional, and they are both articulate and comfortable on camera. But they would both prefer to be in a more controlled setting."

The high-stakes debates - particularly the one on Wednesday, which will be moderated by PBS' Jim Lehrer and focus on domestic policy - could be the last chance for Romney to reclaim momentum from Obama.

The president leads his Republican rival in most national polls and in the politically divided "swing" states likely to decide the November 6 election.

Romney has taken frequent breaks from the campaign trail to practice for the debates, which could draw a television audience dwarfing the 30 million who watched his speech on the last night of the Republican National Convention last month.

The first of the three debates in the 2008 presidential race between Obama and Republican John McCain drew 52 million television viewers.

Debates rarely make a big difference in the final results of presidential races, but a strong performance can give a candidate a bump of a few percentage points in polls, said Mitchell McKinney, a political communications specialist at the University of Missouri.

"You don't normally see game-changer type moments in a presidential debate," he said. "But now the game is almost over, and this is Romney's chance. Can he take advantage?"

Both candidates are proven debaters, but have weaknesses that can be exploited, analysts said.

"If you are Romney, you want to figure out a way to get under Obama's skin, you want to see him get prickly," said Dan Schnur, an aide to McCain's 2000 presidential campaign. "If you're Obama, you want to be a little unpredictable and throw Romney off his script."

A CHALLENGE FOR OBAMA

Recent presidential debates suggest the first debate could be Obama's toughest.

Three of the last four incumbent presidents to seek a second four-year term - Ronald Reagan in 1984, George H.W. Bush in 1992 and his son George W. Bush in 2004 - suffered difficult first debates, although Reagan and the younger Bush won re-election.

The exception was Bill Clinton, a natural debater, in 1996. Clinton had defeated the elder Bush in 1992, and was a much sharper communicator than Kansas Senator Bob Dole, Clinton's Republican opponent in 1996.

"An incumbent president is used to having his way and being deferred to. He is not as used to being challenged," McKinney said. As a result, "they may come across as perturbed. Their job is to defend their record without becoming defensive."

That could prove tricky for Obama, who also will have to walk a fine line in acknowledging the nation's high unemployment rate and the economic difficulties faced by most Americans, while offering a more hopeful vision for the future.

During the 2008 debates, Obama sometimes sounded like the constitutional law professor he once was, exploring every angle of an issue in a rambling style. His staff says it is trying to curb those tendencies in debate preparations.

Obama was reminded of the danger of straying off message earlier this year when he punctuated a speech about the government help that business owners receive with the line, "You didn't build that."

Romney's Republicans called it an insult to business owners and made "We Did Build That" a theme not only of campaign commercials but the Republican convention.

Obama's most memorable 2008 debate gaffe came in what was widely viewed as an insensitive putdown of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton after a moderator questioned her likability.

"You're likable enough, Hillary," said Obama, who after his election appointed her as secretary of state.

Romney faces his own challenges on likability, and the trick for the former private equity executive will be to mount an aggressive attack on Obama without coming off as too cold, calculating or desperate.

"His problem is that people don't believe what he says," said Democrat Doug Hattaway, an aide in the presidential campaigns of Al Gore in 2000 and Hillary Clinton in 2008. "He delivers the lines fine, but the punches don't land the way they would if he was trusted more, so he comes off as more scripted."

During the primary debates, his offer of a $10,000 bet to Perry was not Romney's only out-of-touch moment.

During a debate in Nevada, he countered an attack on his use of a lawn service that employed illegal immigrants by saying that he had told the company, "I'm running for office, for Pete's sake, I can't have illegals."

ROMNEY'S GAFFE PROBLEM

On the campaign trail, Romney has unintentionally reminded voters of his wealth and privilege with comments about his friendship with NASCAR owners and his wife Ann's Cadillacs.

In what could be a turning point in the campaign, Romney was secretly recorded at a private fundraiser telling wealthy donors that the "47 percent" of Americans who do not pay taxes are "victims" who depend on the government for handouts and probably would never vote for him.

"Romney has shown a greater facility for gaffes and missteps, obviously," McKinney said.

Even so, Romney - who participated in more than 20 debates in the 2012 primaries and more than 15 during his unsuccessful run for the White House in 2008 - will be the most experienced presidential campaign debater ever to appear in a general election debate, McKinney said.

Romney will have far more camera time and a much bigger audience in a one-on-one debate with Obama than he did during the crowded primary debates. Analysts said he would need to articulate a sharper vision for the nation and avoid looking like he is merely trying to score debate points at every turn.

Gore learned that lesson the hard way in 2000, when he seemed to win the verbal jousting with George W. Bush but turned off viewers with his impatient demeanor and exasperated sighs when Bush was talking.

U.S. general charged with adultery, other sex crimes

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) ? An Army brigadier general who served five combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan has been charged with forcible sodomy, multiple counts of adultery and having inappropriate relationships with several female subordinates, two U.S. defense officials said Wednesday.

The defense officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details on the case.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair faces possible courts martial on charges that include forced sex, wrongful sexual conduct, violating an order, possessing pornography and alcohol while deployed, and misusing a government travel charge card and filing fraudulent claims.

Sinclair, who served as deputy commander in charge of logistics and support for the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, was sent home in May because of the allegations, the officials said. Since he returned to the U.S., Sinclair has been assigned as a special assistant to the commanding general of 18th Airborne Corps. Often when general officers are under investigation they are temporarily assigned as special assistants to more senior officers or commanders.

The charges were announced at a brief press conference Wednesday at Fort Bragg, the sprawling U.S. Army base in North Carolina that is home to the 82nd Airborne. After reading a prepared statement, base spokesman Col. Kevin Arata refused to take any questions. Reporters were told all questions would have to be made in writing and that no response was likely to come until the following day.

Sinclair was informed of the charges on Monday but has not been placed under arrest. The next step will be an Article 32 investigation, including a preliminary hearing to determine if the matter should go to trial. No date has been set for the hearing, which Arata said would be open to the public.

It was not clear if Sinclair had an attorney, and a phone listing found for him was disconnected.

Sinclair had arrived in Afghanistan for his deployment in September 2011, but had been serving as the division's deputy commander since July 2010.

Sinclair, a trained paratrooper who has been in the Army for 27 years, was serving his third deployment to Afghanistan. He had also served two tours in Iraq, as well as a tour in the first Gulf war.

It's rare for an Army general to face court martial. There have been only two cases in recent years.

Earlier this year, Army Brig. Gen. Roger Duff pleaded guilty to charges of conduct unbecoming an officer, wearing unauthorized awards or ribbons and making a false official statement. He was sentenced to two months confinement and dismissal from the military. Under a pre-trial agreement, only the dismissal may be imposed. The case is still pending, said Army spokesman George Wright.

Prior to that, Maj. Gen. David Hale pleaded guilty to seven counts of conduct unbecoming an officer and one count of making a false statement, also in connection with adultery. He was fined $10,000 and was ordered to retire at the reduced rank of brigadier general, Wright said.

Heat's Bosh: Ready for camp, injury 'behind him'

(AP) ? Heat forward Chris Bosh insists food tasted better this summer. People were friendlier to him and his family. Everything, he said, seemed more fun.

It could have all gone a decidedly different way.

The abdominal injury that nearly ended his season ? and probably would have doomed Miami's title chances ? is behind him now, Bosh said. But when things looked most bleak, when the Heat lost two straight games to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals after he got hurt, Bosh was preparing himself for a long offseason without a championship to savor.

"I thought it was over," Bosh said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I didn't want to fully emotionally invest myself anymore because I didn't want to get hurt like last year when we lost the finals. I kind of had a letdown. I'm not going to lie. I was defeated. And then my wife came to me and said, 'You know, you said things were going to look bad, but you have to keep going.'"

So he did. After missing about three weeks ? the typical recovery time for an injury like his is often twice that long ? Bosh returned for the East finals against Boston. He made a huge 3-pointer in Game 7 as part of a 19-point effort to help beat the Celtics, then averaged 14.6 points against Oklahoma City as the Heat beat the Thunder in five games for the NBA championship.

On Saturday the Heat open training camp in Miami. And Bosh is eager to get the group back together.

"I feel good. I feel real good," Bosh said. "I've been pretty eager to get back with training camp looming and everything. I'm real excited to get back, start working. I've been in the gym a few times in the past couple weeks and that itch for basketball is there. I'm glad it's there and I'm looking forward to this season."

He's beginning his 10th NBA season, as are fellow Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Their ballyhooed decision to team up in Miami in the summer of 2010 led to countless adjustments to everyone, especially Bosh, who went from being the top option in Toronto to the perceived third-wheel with the Heat.

In Miami, they insist that isn't even close to the truth. Wade and James routinely referred to Bosh last season as Miami's "most important player," and the reasons why they say that were on display when the Heat struggled in the playoffs while Bosh dealt with the abdominal injury.

"I know his talent," Wade said. "I know what he brings to the game."

By now, probably just about everyone does.

Game 7 against Boston was a classic for the Heat, a game where for 13 minutes ? a 46-possession span ? of the second half, neither team led by more than two points. Bosh changed that for good when he made his career-best third 3-pointer of the night and sparked the burst that pushed Miami to what became a 101-88 win.

Hard to believe that a couple weeks earlier, he could barely walk.

"I remember thinking just before that shot, if it hits my hands, I'm shooting it," Bosh said. "I don't really think that one particular shot was a significant moment. There were a lot of significant moments. ... The whole time that game was going on, I just knew we were going to win. I didn't have any doubt in my mind. And every time I touched the ball and I shot the ball in that game, I knew it was going in. That's just how I felt."

The biggest key for him now is not feeling the same sort of pain he felt when he got hurt while dunking in Game 1 of the second-round series with Indiana.

It's been his biggest priority this summer, and will stay that way.

"It's behind me. But I still have to pay attention to stretching and strengthening all the muscles in the core around it and everything," Bosh said. "It's something that I just can't forget about. I'm not sure if I can re-aggravate it but I'm sure, just like anything, it has the potential to be chronic. If we stay on top of it and continue to do the proper treatment, proper stretching and proper strengthening, I don't see it being an issue."

Bosh spent nearly a decade chasing his first NBA title, as did James. Several other players on last season's Heat roster waited even longer to be fitted for their first championship ring.

The motivation going forward, Bosh said, is easy. He wants the Heat to, as he put it, "get greedy."

"Winning a championship is only the beginning for this group, and we have to look at it that way," Bosh said. "We have to look at it as we're trying to have a dynasty. I think that's the next thing. The only way you can do that is to have more than one championship. I look at it as a five- to six-year increment, where we're trying to win as many as possible."

Solo Parenting: Preparing Your Child to Fly Alone | The Dangerous ...

?The holidays are coming?sooner than you think. It?s a time of year when the skies are full of kids. Kids and their parents flying to spend Thanksgiving at Grandma?s, kids and their parents flying south to spend Christmas at a warm-climate resort (or a ski resort), kids and their families flying to spend the vacation at the home of old family friends.

And then there are the kids who are flying alone.

Most of these are children of divorce. If you have moved out of area since the divorce, and your ex still lives in your old town, or if your ex has moved out of area, while you remained behind, your kids may be among the traveling legion of solo flyers. Whether they live with Mom and are visiting Dad or live with Dad and are visiting Mom, chances are they?ll be flying as ?unaccompanieds? (unaccompanied minors) this holiday.

Once upon a time, the old airline slogan of ?Fly the friendly skies? was very applicable to kids flying alone. They were treated extra-nice by the airplane personnel and even, in those pre-9/11 days, sometimes permitted to go up to the cockpit and watch the pilot fly the plane.

Those days are gone?presumably forever. No visits to the cockpit, no extra-special fun. But airline personnel do still watch out for ?unaccompanieds,? and if your child is flying alone for the first time, he or she need have nothing to fear. But he does need a bit of preparation.

Favorite things

Julie Andrews, as Maria in The Sound of Music, sings of ?a few of my favorite things.? If your child is little, a favorite thing or two?a teddy bear or other ?special? toy?can bring a strong measure of comfort to him as he is propelled through the skies on his own with a cabin full of strangers.

At any age, he needs something to do to beat off boredom during the journey. Depending on his age and interests, handheld video games, comic books or regular books, puzzle books, small toys, or other amusements will help pass the hours in the sky. If there?s an inflight movie, and if it?s suitable for his age, that can be a big help.

Do send him with some chewing gum in his pockets, and explain to him that if his ears ?pop? or clog, chewing the gum can help alleviate the condition.

Don?t keep reassuring him that he?s going to be fine and nothing will be wrong?unless he expresses fear himself first. Otherwise your repeated remonstrations that there?s nothing to worry about may make him wonder just what can go wrong anyhow and may lead him to conjure up scary possibilities.

The pat-down

Under the newest rules for pre-boarding security scanning, he is liable to get a pat-down, and the pat-downs can be pretty invasive, despite the TSA?s recent statement that they are trying to be sensitive to children. If you can opt for him to go through the scanners in lieu of a pat-down, by all means do. Standing in an enclosure with his hands raised is not a scary experience; having a gloved hand touch all of his body including his private area and probe within his waistband can feel very invasive, and if he?s learned about ?good touch, bad touch? (which I certainly hope he has!), he may react strongly to this intrusion. Try explaining that this is a time when it?s necessary for an adult to touch him in a way that may feel invasive or ?bad? but that, just as when he visits the doctor?s office, it may be necessary.

Always supervised

Perhaps the most frightening aspect of the flight is the idea of spending some two or six hours in the air without Mom or Dad, or at least Teacher, or the babysitter?someone familiar. A common fear is expressed in the question, ?What if Daddy isn?t there when I get off the plane?? Explain that a flight attendant or airline ground personnel will be with him from the minute you kiss him goodbye at the gate till the minute Daddy meets him at his destination, and that the airline?s workers will not leave his side till he is safely in Daddy?s hands?and that the same is true in reverse when Daddy sends him home to your waiting hug.

If a plane change is required, explain to him that he needs to get on a different plane at such-and-such a city, but that, once again, the flight attendant will hand him off to a ground personnel member, who will personally escort him to the next plane and hand him off to a flight crew member on that plane.

The fear factor

Of course it goes without saying that you should not let him watch any airplane disaster movies, news reports of airline accidents or ?incidents,? or anything else that might instill fear in him prior to the trip. And you can make much of the fact that he?s going to be flying alone like a ?big boy??though of course with the airline personnel keeping close watch over him.

Pack snacks?nothing that risks upsetting his stomach, and nothing that?s problematic to eat on a plane, but certainly celery sticks, carrot pieces, and chunks of cheese, or bagsful of dry Cheerios are among the suitable choices.

Explain to him where to find the bathrooms on the plane, and that an on board bathroom is called the ?lavatory? or ?lav.? Explain to him how to lock (and unlock!) the lav door. Suggest that, in case the ride gets a little bumpy ?just like a bumpy road in a car,? he might do better to sit down in the lav, even if he only has to pee.

And speaking of bumpy rides, do tell him to keep his seat belt on between takeoff and landing unless he gets up to go to the lav.

If you are sending two kids on an unaccompanied flight, they?ll have each other for companionship, diversion, and reassurance.

Present the flight as a fun adventure, with the promise of Daddy (or Mommy, as the case may be) waiting at the other end. You?ll soon have a seasoned traveler on your hands!?

How to Find Best Real estate professional to Get the Best Deal ...

Because the field of Real Estate is growing like an explode, there are so many realtors joining the business. Are you looking to buy new house or house? Or are you looking to market your house or house? Signing a realtor is nice option. Some people believes that, why agent? There is some aspects favors realtor firmly. Particularly, realtor can guide you to buy or sell property speedily. I don?to go into deep in this subject. It is away from context here.

I want to discuss that which are the factors should concern while signing the real estate agent? You should find greatest realtor among the few lubbock tx realtors.
First the first is, back ground of the real estate professional. How much experience he/she offers? From how long he/she is in this business? More encounter means more popularity. More experienced realtor can help to make best deal; irrespective you are buying or selling.
The way they are doing their marketing? After all marketing will be the heart of any organization. Where they publicize like TV, r / c, magazine, news cardstock and other publications and so forth. It helps to do speedy deal. Ask them about how precisely much success they got from the advertisement. You can keep them explain the whole process of advertising and marketing and how much men and women will see it.

Another problem you should ask can be, how much time will you acquire normally? Is it fulfilling your demand?
The amount of percentage he/she will take because commission? This is very important question. I think percentage would depend how hurry you might have. Because if you want to sell or purchase speedily, you have to pay more money. Consequently make deal according to your requirement along with best realtor.

Each country or point out or region provides association of real estate agents. They stay in touch with the other. That is good for the shoppers. For example, Pikes peak organization of realtors, your association of agents in Colorado Point out of USA. This kind of association connects Denver colorado Springs Realtors with the customers. You should learn that the realtor you happen to be signing is an affiliate the association like this or not.
Another factor is area. Read the portfolio of agent. The realtor, that has done many offers in your area, is good for you. The realtor, who?ve more reputation plus much more experience, but he/she working in other area, is not a lot effective.

Now I want to end my dialogue with two critical points. The first one can be, for how much time you need to make the deal? A few realtors put the residence in their listing and there for one 12 months almost, because they never have much reputation or even didn?t do proper advertising. Is it proper? No, not at all. Make deals for three to four months. There are plenty of realtors in the market. That doesn?t make sense that will signing on realtor for long time. One other can give you best deal, in case you give them chance. List a property for one year, also bring the reputation of property lower. It is avoidable to lock with a single realtor for one calendar year.

The second one is, make contact with the old customers from the realtor. This is the best way to get the complete picture of realtor. Take the set of his/her old customers with their contact number. Contact them and ask about the knowledge about the realtor. They?ll tell you the exact scenario. If they haven?capital t great experience, stay away from him/her. There are lots of realtors available. Go for other 1. Make sure that the customers you?re talking with you must represent your area or close by it. The customers regarding other area have good experience, but could be possibility that customers of your area doesn?t satisfied.

At the end, conclusion is, find the best real estate agent to get the best deal. Who is the best realtor? Now you have the answer of this question. You can find it from your bunch. Test him/her using the question I have talked about and make decision. The particular search of good real estate professional becomes very difficult, with there being so many people coming into this business regularly. There are so many folks the Colorado Rises Real Estate, who has implemented this as a facet business. So find best Colorado Springs Realtor is easy to suit your needs.

Bees decrease food intake, live longer, when given compound found in red wine

ScienceDaily (Sep. 24, 2012) ? The idea that drinking red wine may provide health benefits -- or possibly even extend your life -- is an appealing thought for many people. Now, there may be added attraction. Researchers have found that when given resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, bees consume less food.

Previous scientific studies on resveratrol show that it lengthens the lifespan of diverse organisms ranging from unicellular yeast to fruit flies and mice. Since bees are social animals like humans, a team of scientists from Arizona State University, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and Harvard Medical School, decided to test the effects of the chemical on the honey bee.

In a series of experiments published in the journal Aging, the scientists tested the effects of resveratrol on the lifespan, learning ability, and food perception in honey bees.

Their research has confirmed that not only does this compound extend the lifespan of honey bees by 33 to 38 percent, it also changes the decisions that bees make about food by triggering a "moderation effect" when they eat.

"For the first time, we conducted several tests on the effects of resveratrol by using the honey bee as a model," said Brenda Rasc?n, an ASU alumnus and doctoral student with Gro Amdam, an associate professor in ASU's School of Life Sciences and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. "We were able to confirm that under normal living conditions, resveratrol lengthened lifespan in honey bees."

Since resveratrol is an antioxidant, researchers also questioned whether it would be capable of diminishing the damaging effects of "free radicals" -- often released during stressful conditions. Free radicals are believed to cause damage to cells, and have an effect on how we age. Resveratrol did not, however, prove to extend lives of bees living under stressful conditions.

Yet, since the bees tested with the compound were living longer, researchers asked the next question: What's happening that is causing them to live longer?

"Because what we eat is such an important contributor to our physical health, we looked at the bees' sensitivity to sugar and their willingness to consume it," said Amdam. "Bees typically gorge on sugar and while it's the best thing for them, we know that eating too much is not necessarily a good thing."

Interestingly, Amdam, Rasc?n, and their research team discovered that bees given the compound were less sensitive to sugar. By using different sugar solutions -- some very diluted and some with stronger concentrations -- they found that bees receiving resveratrol were not as interested in eating the sugar solutions unless the sugar was highly concentrated. The bees basically changed their perception about food.

In a final experiment, they measured how much food the bees would consume if given the opportunity to eat as much sugar water as they possibly could.

"Surprisingly, the bees that received the drug decreased their food intake," said Rasc?n. "The bees were allowed to eat as much as they pleased and were certainly not starving -- they simply would not gorge on the food that we know they like. It's possible resveratrol may be working by some mechanism that is related to caloric restriction -- a dietary regimen long known to extend lifespan in diverse organisms."

The Research Council of Norway and the PEW Charitable Trust funded this study.

Argentina's leader rejects IMF criticism of data

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? Argentina's president on Tuesday rejected the International Monetary Fund's criticism of her government's economic figures and dismissed an IMF threat of unspecified sanctions if changes are not made.

President Cristina Fernandez also seemed extremely irritated that the IMF president used soccer terminology in a warning to Argentina a day earlier.

"I want to tell the head of the IMF that this is not a soccer game. The (global) economic and political crisis is the most severe on record since the '30s," Fernandez said during her speech to the U.N. General Assembly.

Still, the Argentine leader also used soccer to make her own criticism of the IMF, saying the IMF might perform its duties better if it learned a few things from soccer's international governing body, FIFA.

"The role of the president of FIFA has been far more satisfying than the role of the director of the IMF in organizing what is their responsibility," Fernandez said.

While FIFA successfully puts on the World Cup every four years, she said, "the IMF has been trying to organize the (worldwide) economy since the '80s and crisis after crisis shows it hasn't done so."

On Monday, IMF President Christine Lagarde criticized the economic statistics released by Argentina's government, numbers that are widely discounted by outside analysts, and warned of sanctions if the Argentines don't publish accurate inflation and growth data by Dec. 17.

"This is the last yellow card we show them," Lagarde said, referring to a warning given to soccer players for serious infractions during games. "I hope we can avoid the red card (expulsion), but if the statistics aren't corrected, if they don't comply with the rules, then all the players are equal. It doesn't matter how well they play football."

Fernandez ridiculed the warning. "My country is not a soccer club. It is a sovereign nation that makes its decisions sovereignly and will not be subjected to any pressure, let alone to any threat," she said.

Fernandez did not refer directly to the economic statistics questioned by the IMF, saying only that Argentina has turned its back on formulas promoted by the agency and has a stronger economy than countries that follow its prescriptions.

Argentina is the only leading world economy and IMF member whose numbers have been rejected by the Washington-based IMF as unreliable.

Critics of its statistics contend Fernandez's leftist-oriented government greatly understates inflation. The government's INDEC statistics agency has reported monthly inflation below 1 percent for more than two years, while Argentines have seen price rises of two or three times higher.

Moody's Investors Service downgraded Argentina's risk rating last week, potentially increasing borrowing costs for anyone doing business with the country.
