Food vendors and other petty traders at the National Stadium, Lagos on Sunday said sales were usually good for them at the weekends and public holidays unlike the week days.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, who was at the stadium, reports that shops were open, while other social and sporting activities were also in progress.
Lola Tayo, who sells drinks and snacks, told NAN that she makes sure that every weekend and public holiday she opened early because she knew that she would have good patronage.
Tayo also said that on such days, she sold cash and did not allow debtors.
?My customers prefer cold drinks, so, I come early to pack them in the fridge and even use electricity generator to ensure that my drinks are cool.
?I like weekend sales and always prepare for it because I record more profit outside my customers as they will buy and pay without giving me any problem,? she said.
Bose Komolafe, popularly known as ?Mama Ijesha,? a food vendor, also acknowledged that there was more patronage from different groups who come to use the stadium for different purposes on Sundays.
Komolafe said the turnout of customers was always high because most canteen owners rest on Sundays, making the day an added advantage.
?Although I make sales on ordinary days but weekends are different because some of our youths don?t cook at home and some food vendors don?t open on Sundays,? she said.
Festus Chiadikobi, an ice cream hawker told NAN that he makes the highest sales on Sundays at the National Stadium due to the large number of people who visit various activities.
Chiadikobi described Sundays as special days for him, saying that the hot weather made people both old and young to be thirsty and thereby buy ice cream to quench their thirst.
?Sunday is a special day for me, in fact I always pray for it to come because I sell three times of what I used to sell on ordinary days, and I thank God for everything,? he added.
The gatemen at the entrance at of the stadium also said they had more patronage as more people who come to use the edifice pay the mandatory entry fee of N100 for cars.
