The former Test cricketer, Paul Harris, pushed the national selectors to include Robin Peterson for the second Test between Australia and South Africa, scheduled for next week at Adelaide.
It is more likely for Peterson to make a comeback in the longest format after the Proteas pace attack turned up a little short at Gabba during the opening game, which resulted in a draw.
With the wicket at Adelaide expected to be much flatter than what we saw in Brisbane, the selectors would be keen to make a careful choice on the bowling mix for both teams. For the Proteas, Imran Tahir is the front-runner for inclusion in the 2nd match's playing XI.
In his last 5-day appearance, against England, Tahir was slightly on the expensive side and was able to grab only one wicket in both the innings that he bowled.
On the other hand, with only six Tests under his belt, Peterson has improved a lot as a bowler, securing a regular place in the 50 and 20 over formats. The highest wicket taker for his team in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Peterson was selected over Johan Botha for the series that followed.
"He has always been a good bowler and has had a chance to show that now, What I've been impressed with is the way he flights the ball, he is not scared at all," Said Harris while talking to ESPNcricinfo. ?
Having a regular place in the side has helped Peterson's confidence as well. "It's a massive thing to know you are backed," Harris added.
Harris, having played 37 Tests for South Africa, was an important part of the team in their wins against England and Australia in 2008, on the road to becoming the top ranked Test team.
"I knew I had a job to do and a lot of the time my job was to hold up an end, with the attack we had at the time, it wasn't part of my role to be attacking. And maybe it would have been nice at time to be able to be more aggressive and take wickets but that wasn't the strategy then and I was happy with that," He said.
