Former Saint Martin?s University standout athlete Andrew Prentice won a 5K race Sunday morning as one of about 500 runners who took part in the Turn Back the Clock Run at Rainier Vista Park in Lacey.
The fourth-annual run raised funds for Lacey Parks & Recreation?s annual Hershey Track & Field meet, a free meet for children ages 9-14, as well as for its general scholarship fund.
Sunday?s races raised about $5,000, said Mary Coppin, a recreation supervisor and the event?s race director.
The Turn Back the Clock Run offered a 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run, all beginning and ending at Rainier Vista Park.
?Use that extra hour for something healthy,? said Coppin about the run.
Prentice, 29, finished his race in 16 minutes, 39 seconds. It was his first time participating in the run. He said he?s working on getting back into shape. Prentice graduated from Saint Martin?s University in 2005 and is now a certified financial planner. He ran cross country and track for the school, where he was a two-time All-American, he said.
Jason Domagalski of Lacey also participated in the 5K run, though in a less-competitive fashion. He pushed his twin boys in a stroller as he ran.
It also was his first time running the race and also his first race with his sons, D.J. and Noah, both of whom were dressed in matching polo shirts. Prentice?s wife, Jenny, also ran in the race, pushing their third child. The stroller wasn?t as heavy as it looked, he said. Domagalski, who is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, said he tries to run every other day.
The overall men?s and women?s winners won a pair of running shoes from South Sound Running, Coppin said. Those who finished first through third in each age group took home a medal.
