Women do face menopause, and it no doubt affects their sexual bonding with their partners. Though for long hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is recommended for women to restore the dropping hormonal levels, it was in the year 2002 that a $1 billion Women's Health Initiative study in the US alarmed once they observed alarming high rate of breast cancer and heart disease among the women, who were part of the research.
However, the results got opposition from Gynaecologist John Eden, head of the Sydney Menopause Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women, who claimed that the women were over the age of 60 were not likely to be treated for the HRT in the first place, thereby terming the findings as inflated.
As of now, it's almost clear that there is nothing wrong in the hormone replacement therapy as being projected a decade ago.
"A whole decade of women have missed out on this treatment", said Australasian Menopausal Society president Jane Elliot. "It is not for everyone. It's not a panacea, but it certainly should be something women feel they can consider".
It is strongly believed that the therapy started soon after menopause is safe enough for women, thereby saving them from results of menopause including mood, bone density, and cardiovascular risk too.
