Sunday promises to be a busy day on the roadways and waterways of Broward County.
The 25th annual Toys in the Sun Run will impact traffic between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. as thousands of gift-bearing motorcylists travel from the Mardi Gras Casino, at 831 N. Federal Highway, in Hallandale Beach, to Markham Park, at 16001 W. State Road 84 in Sunrise.
The motorcycle convoy will travel north on Interstate-95 and west on I-595 prompting detours and road closures.?
There will be live entertainment, more than 100 vendors, food and a classic bike show. Admission is $10 per person with an unwrapped toy, or $20 per person without a toy.
Organizers are not accepting stuffed animals. The run typically raises more than half a million dollars and collects more than 50,000 toys.
Later that day, the City of Pompano Beach hosts the 50th Annual Boat Parade. There will be road and bridge closures affecting traffic around the Intracoastal Waterway.The Atlantic Boulevard bridge and the Northeast 14th Street bridge will be locked in the ?up? position between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
As an alternate route, travelers eastbound on Atlantic Boulevard will be detoured onto Northeast 26th Avenue. Westbound traffic from the beach will be rerouted onto Riverside Drive north and south.
Eastbound traffic for the Northeast 14th Street bridge will be detoured at Northeast 23rd Avenue. Drivers attempting to leave the beach area from Northeast 14 Street will have to use A1A north or south to other bridges.
The Hillsboro Boulevard bridge in Deerfield Beach will be used throughout the boat parade as needed.
Law enforcement officers will be on hand to direct drivers and pedestrians during the event.
